The gothic and/or baroque housefronts of
Innsbruck's old town derive from the time between 1500 - 1540. The picturesque arbours and arcade aisles are typical for this city type, which nestle along the former main street of Innsbruck - today's Herzog-Friedrich-Street. It leads towards Innsbruck's main sight, the "
Golden Roof".
Emperor Maximilian added the magnificent oriel onto the former residence of duke Friedrich IV on the occasion of his wedding with Bianca Maria Sforza from Milan. With its 2.657 golden copper shingles, it marked the, at that time, centre of Europe.
